First Saturday Membership Paddle – Rossville, TN ramp to Piperton, TN. access ramp.
Saturday, March 4, 2017 Arrival Time: 8:00 AM
This is a 6.4 mile paddle on the Wolf River between the Fayette County cities of Rossville, TN, and Piperton, TN. On this section you will be paddling an unchannelized section of the Wolf. Paddlers will experience a natural un-cluttered class one river with meandering curves and bends. Unlike the Ghost Section, paddlers rarely become disoriented or venture off course because the channel is clearly visible through the entire section. WRC has intentionally not put up any of the familiar blue and white canoe trail signs, thereby helping to keep this section as natural as possible.
THIS IS A COLD WEATHER PADDLE - The air and water temperatures will most likely be cold and possibly wet, so we ask that only paddlers with foul weather paddle experience register for this trip. Dress in layers of quick dry (no cotton) clothing and bring a change of clothing in a dry bag. If you have any doubts about whether you are experienced enough to paddle this section, please check with Jim Gafford, WRC Director of Outreach prior to registering. Jim can be reached via email (email@example.com) or 901-573-2353 (cell/text) and will be glad to hear from you.
We recommend you register early to assist with trip planning. Trip registration will close at 5:00 pm on Thursday, March 2, 2017.
WRC highly recommend registered paddlers read the online Safety Information under the Paddling tab on the WRC website, www.wolfriver.org. Also read River Section Description and take a look at the Wolf River Access Map.
Trip Leader: WRC River Guide Karen Hoffman will lead the trip. Assisting Karen will be Len Latham, Jeff Sojourner, Jim Gafford as well as other guides.
For Those Bringing boats: You will meet the trip leader no later than 8:15 a.m. at the Rossville boat ramp. To get there, drive east on Hwy. 57 to Rossville, TN. Turn north onto Highway 194, drive through Rossville, over the RR tracks, and turn right into the parking lot just 100 yards or so after you cross the Wolf River. Vehicles will be shuttled to the Piperton, TN. takeout at 8:30 AM. If you miss this shuttle, we will run a second shuttle back to Rossville, TN. after the paddle is completed.
For Those Renting Boats: Please contact Jim Gafford (Director of Outreach) for assistance in acquiring a canoe or kayak. Jim can be reached by email (jim.gafford @wolfriver.org) or at 901-573-2353 (cell or text).
