Frog Chorus Walk

05/30/2020, 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM

Mineral Slough Boardwalk, Ghost River State Natural Area, LaGrange, TN map

Description:

Please join us on our annual frog chorus walk along the boardwalk at Mineral Slough in the Ghost River State Natural Area.

PLEASE NOTE:  This year, we will follow social distancing guidelines and limit our group size to 10 people. We also request that participants wear a protective mask to ensure everyone's safety.

Also, a good frog performance depends on favorable weather conditions.  In the event of storms, rain, or cool temperatures we will reschedule.  Check this site for updates!

We will meet at 8:00pm at the Ghost River State Natural Area (Mineral Slough) trailhead (MAP). (Take Hwy 57 east from Collierville to LaGrange, TN, in Fayette Co. Turn right at the flashing yellow light, go down the hill, make a right onto Beasley Rd., then look for gravel parking area on left after 1.5 to 2 miles). We'll take a short walk down the trail to the boardwalk where we will look and listen for calling frogs and try to identify them.  We recommend long pants and sleeves, insect repellent, and a flashlight.  Our Frog Chorus Walk is a unique experience. There is something magical about being in a southern swamp at night in the late spring, immersed in the sights and sounds of the natural world.

The frogs seem not to notice our presence, their minds being occupied with courting.
