February 2020: A Message from the Director

As you read this, we will have the first two months of the year behind us. With March and the advent of spring come more moderate temperatures and sunshine an more opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors.

With 10 miles of the Wolf River Greenway trial now open and 6 more miles under construction,  we are excited about our progress in building out the full 26 mile Wolf River Greenway in the City of Memphis. We are also activating the Greenway as we go to benefit the community and support our conservation mission. Our Wolf River Restoration Series, for example, began with the MLK Day of Service at the Epping Way section of the Greenway.

Under the leadership of WRC Community Conservation Manager Nick Wiggins, we are planning a variety of future activities centered around the Wolf River Greenway such as Zumba classes, educational walks led by local experts, and paddling instruction at Epping Way Lake.

Epping Way Lake is already available year-round for public fishing, and most sections of the Greenway are hosting field trips, service projects, and other educational programming for students. Our Education Committee continues to visualize and plan effective and engaging education programs for youth and families, especially at Epping Way.

Thank you to all the volunteers who have helped us in the first two months of 2020, most recently with the 15th Annual Tree Planting on Feb. 22nd!  We are even more excited about all the activities that we have ahead of us.  Use this link to learn more about the Wolf River Greenway. To learn more about the Wolf River Restoration series, please use this link.  Or visit our website at www.wolfriver.org.
