About Us Events & Activities Conservation Education Greenway Get Involved

Dear Wolf River Conservancy friends,

We continue to make progress on the buildout of the Wolf River Greenway trail project with 8.2 miles of the trail now open to the public and an additional 2.4 miles currently under construction. We also have construction contracts pending and/or completed construction drawings for an additional 8.7 miles.  Currently, 74% of our 26 mile trail is either complete, under construction, or starting construction soon. This means that 2019 will be a very important year for the Wolf River Greenway!

We frequently mention the length of the Wolf River Greenway – 26 miles – but did you know that the Greenway will also encompass approximately 850 acres of greenspace? This is comparable to 842 acre Central Park in New York City.  The Wolf River Greenway will soon be a truly transformative urban linear park, connecting diverse neighborhoods, and providing access to thousands of community members.

While the full completion of our project is our most immediate goal, we believe the true measure of the Wolf River Greenway’s success will lie in how it is activated by our staff and volunteers. Our plan is to provide future projects and programs which support the Conservancy’s conservation mission.  Some of our early successes in activating the Wolf River Greenway in 2018 include:

  • Over 600 children participating in educational activities on segments of the Greenway;
  • Over 2000 volunteer hours in various service projects on the Greenway;
  • Nearly 200 trees planted along the Epping Way Greenway.
  • Collaboration with a variety of corporations and other organizations such as Clean Memphis, Memphis River Parks Partnership, Explore Bike Share, International Paper, FedEx, Brother International, ALSAC, St. Georges School, Service Master, Friends of Kennedy Park and many others.

And in January 2019, over 800 registrants ran on the Humphreys segment of the Greenway during the Wolf River 5K and about 50 volunteers participated in our MLK Day service project at Epping Way!

We are pleased with these early successes, and we are planning on many more as we complete additional segments of the Wolf River Greenway in 2019.  Please visit our activity calendar to keep up with our latest events and projects.

Thanks for your continued support of the Wolf River Conservancy!
