Latest News on the Wolf River Greenway

The Wolf River Greenway project team has been hard at work designing, constructing and opening new phases of the Wolf River Greenway. This year, phase 14B (Walnut Grove north to MLGW powerline) has been completed and is open to the public. This 1.4-mile section includes 3 wonderful bridges and beautiful views of the Wolf River. Completion of this section brings the total completed length of the Wolf River Greenway to almost 10-miles!

Next year is setting up to be a wonderful year for the Greenway with the opening of phases 5A and 5B along N. McLean in the 1st Quarter of 2020 and 3 other phases under construction. The phases under construction include phases 4, 10A and 14A. Phase 14A promises to be an absolutely spectacular phase of the Wolf River Greenway with a 270-foot cable-stayed bridge over the Wolf River and an elevated ½- mile boardwalk through the Lucius Birch State Natural Area with a long-awaited connection to the Shelby Farms Greenline. In addition, several other phases are completing design and will be going to bid in 2020. The Wolf River Greenway team could potentially have 6 phases under construction at some point in 2020. If you are unfamiliar with the phases of the Wolf River Greenway see the map and chart below.

In the development of any type of trail system, whether it is water or land-based, a certain degree of commonality should exist along the route. This enables users to not only find their way and clearly identify elements of the trail system but affords users a level of comfort that certain design elements exist at all designated access points. One of the most critical design elements is wayfinding signage. The Wolf River Greenway team is excited to announce that new a trailhead signage package is currently being finalized and should be installed in 2020. We will keep you updated throughout the year on all our Wolf River Greenway progress.
