Water Quality Work Underway at Rhodes

Dr. Patrick Kelly of Rhodes College is leading his students in studying various aspects of water quality along the Wolf River, including at Epping Way Lake, where he has placed a buoy and sensors to collect data on dissolved oxygen, temperature and light in the lake.  He will be evaluating the numbers later to understand the lake's metabolism.  He is also collecting water samples for examining plankton and conducting water quality tests. One of Dr. Kelly's students, Clare McGuire, is evaluating sediment and water samples taken from various points along the Wolf River for the presence of microplastics, while also measuring levels of dissolved oxygen, nitrate, phosphate, and pH.

We look forward to learning more from Dr. Kelly and his students and hope that this is just the beginning!
