Behind the Scenes on the Greenway: Progress from Kennedy Park to the Shelby Farms Greenline

Our team recently visited the construction site of the newest segment of the Wolf River Greenway—an exciting portion of the connection from Kennedy Park to the Shelby Farms Greenline.

While the finished Greenway is a beautiful scenic trail enjoyed by thousands, the process behind bringing it to life is just as impressive. From meticulous planning and design to ensuring ADA accessibility and addressing erosion control, every detail is carefully considered to create a safe, sustainable, and enjoyable experience for all users. Leveling the land, protecting the environment, and designing for durability are all part of the behind-the-scenes work that make the Greenway possible.

Construction on this segment, which is about 2 miles long, is scheduled to be completed later this year, bringing us one step closer to a fully connected trail system. Once finished, the Wolf River Greenway will span 26 miles, connecting Germantown to Mud Island and linking neighborhoods, parks, and natural areas throughout Memphis. This transformative project is more than a trail—it’s about building community, promoting wellness, and providing future generations with a deeper connection to nature.

We’re thrilled to share this glimpse into the work happening now and can’t wait for you to experience this incredible new stretch of trail once it opens!
