Conservation: Conserving Cypress Creek in South Memphis

Wolf River Conservancy partners withThe Works, Inc. (The Works) to source and maintain trees at a nursery as part of Memphis Native Tree Works, a venture started and stewarded by The Works. Now, our partnership is expanding into land transactions! Two conservation easements have been signed on The Works properties in south Memphis adjacent to T.O. Fuller State Park. Totaling approximately 38 acres, these properties are now protected in perpetuity from development, mining, and poor management practices. Containing surprising topography with both upland and bottomland hardwood habitats that front Cypress Creek, these properties enlarge the conservation area of T.O. Fuller State Park at a time when there is renewed interest in the development of South Memphis.

This conservation partnership also expands the Conservancy’s involvement in the  T.O. Fuller area. Earlier this year, the Conservancy held its Annual MLK, Jr., Day of Service at the park, where 76 volunteers helped to make improvements. In 2020, we coordinated a donation of 145 acres to T.O. Fuller State Park.  Also, for many years, our the park has  partnered with the Conservancy on educational efforts.
