River Reflections: Mother’s Day Paddle

We want to extend a huge shout-out to all the amazing people who joined us for our  

unforgettable Mother's Day Paddle along a picturesque three-and-a-half-mile stretch of the Wolf River, flanked by both the Wolf River Greenway and the Shelby Farms trails!

Our Mother’s Day paddlers enjoyed the continued unfurling of spring along the Wolf River, with trees and shrubs in full foliage, blackberries starting to ripen, and the Northern Catalpa trees displaying beautiful bell-shaped white flowers, making it feel like paddling in a Japanese garden. Throughout our adventure, we made delightful pit stops at various sandbars, allowing everyone to stretch their legs and bask in the company of fellow paddlers.

One of our participants, Ann, shared her heartwarming experience. Ann was one of the winners of a free paddle drawing during our last Drink a Beer, Save a River event!

"My mom and I had a great time on the Mother's Day Paddle with the Wolf River Conservancy. Everyone was so nice and helpful. With probably a handful of paddling experience between the two of us, this was a perfect section for beginners. It is so amazing to have the Wolf River in the middle of the city, and I encourage everyone to try out a paddle with this group!"  

Another Mother’s Day paddler, Jenny Turner Koltnow, said, “I wish I could float the Wolf River every week. I’ve loved (and run!) the Wolf River trails for more than twenty years, but I finally kayaked the Wolf on Mother’s Day with my husband and teenage sons. It was beautiful, calming, and created a perfect place for uninterrupted time with my (very busy) family. We may have been just two miles from our house, but we were transported into another world with nature that afternoon. We will be back!”

The joy and positivity from our Mother's Day Paddle truly warmed our hearts, and we can't wait for more incredible adventures with all of you!
