Please Welcome Dylan Moreau, Our New Land Stewardship Associate!
Dylan's first exposure to the important work of nonprofits in conserving land struck when he was fourteen and stumbled upon a 100-acre forest in his hometown of Norton, Massachusetts. Trails wove through scattered pine, oak, and beech stands along bending riverbanks and ridges, and under a spell of bird songs, woodpecker drums, and frog calls, Dylan experienced the spark of curiosity which five years later would compel him to study environmental sustainability at Michigan State University. He later returned to those woods, not just as a visitor, but as a volunteer looking to maintain trails and help the Land Preservation Society of Norton in any way he could.
After earning his Bachelor's, Dylan remained a devoted volunteer while working seasonally as an invasive species management intern with Rhode Island's Department of Environmental Management, then a park manager with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, where his office was a tucked away on a beach. In the end, four years of service with the Land Preservation Society of Norton, the last of which was spent on the the Board of Directors, made clear to him that his true calling lay in land conservation. Now living in Memphis, he hopes to do his part in protecting the diverse, rich habitats of the region while helping others find in the Wolf River Watershed what he first found in the forests of Massachusetts and rediscovers each day in his new home.
