Wolf River Conservancy Awarded One Million Dollars for Conservation

Wolf River Conservancy has been awarded $1 million in funding for the conservation of wetland and associated upland habitats for waterfowl and other birds within the Wolf River watershed.  This award is made possible through the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA), the Migratory Bird Conservation Commission, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

NAWCA grants are awarded with the purpose of conserving and restoring important habitats across North America. Successfully applying for and receiving a NAWCA grant is a testament both to the high quality of the Conservancy works as an accredited land trust and the importance of Wolf River lands on a continental scale for waterfowl and other bird species.

Wetlands provide many economic, ecological and social benefits to species and the surrounding communities, including mitigating the effects of climate change. Protecting wetlands helps to build resilient communities by protecting them from flooding and drought and providing critical recharge for our underground drinking water supply. NAWCA grants conserve bird populations and wetland habitat while supporting local economies and outdoor recreational opportunities, such as hunting, fishing and birdwatching.
